“This tour was the perfect balance of sights, lunch, and bus. Seeing both sights with a break in between for our delicious lunch with rest periods on the bus was well timed and guided by Raffaele. Our driver is a champion who can navigate between the most narrow roads lined with scooters cars and cliffs. The sights are remarkable and our guide, very knowledgeable.”

Unfortunately the return trip you’re left to your own devices to get the train. No info at station platform. So a train arrived at correct time. “Avoiding the notorious railway system was important as well as having it all laid out for you. The price was good. Transportation was slow mainly due to the traffic in the area and so we were delayed. The site is manageable. Headsets ok. Guide was good she kept up the pace. It was very hot though. Glad we did it. “The AVI Travel half day tour began with coach pick up from Parking Lauro, just outside the centre of Sorrento. Our tour guide was Katerina, who handed us over to a local specialist guide at Herculaneum itself. The Herculaneum excavation site was fascinating, but clearly the reception centre was overwhelmed by the volume of visitors. This was mid morning, mid week. Our party were admitted under a group ticket, but there was still considerable delay before actual entry into the site area. We understood that there was a two hour wait for other queuing customers and that this was not unusual. Our local guide was well informed and humorous, but…”
